Rubrics
Rubrics provide a performance-based assessment which is authentic and reinforces student learning as students strive toward higher levels of performance. Rubrics enables you to develop scoring rubrics for performance-based assessment that enable faculty and others to evaluate student performance on any given task or set of tasks. Within the rubric, performance indicators are used by the rater to evaluate or assess student performance related to a desired learning outcome. The use of narrative descriptions separated into performance levels for a given task provide a rich assessment of student development related to anticipated learning outcomes. Each performance level describes degrees of proficiency and each level is assigned a value that rates the degree of proficiency or student performance. High performing organizations can harness the power of Rubrics to track progress toward achieving learning and institutional effectiveness goals. Scoring rubrics support the critical link between student performance and instruction. Because the system is highly integrated, faculty can also invite external stakeholders to review and score student performance using Rubrics. This external feedback provides important validation to the scoring process and provides students with a view of their learning that is not provided in a traditional classroom setting.
